How Much Is Your Soul Worth?

The most sacred and respected space in the entire African-American community has for hundreds of years been the pulpit of the Black Church. Preachers have been able to lead everything thing from slave revolts to civil rights marches because they are largely unbought. Well in 2015, a group of preachers are threatening that paradigm.

Twice Donald Trump has put out the clarion call for African-American faith leaders to join him at his palatial Manhattan digs. This is the same Donald Trump who has made ugly, disparaging statements about Latinos, women, Muslims, veterans and people with physical disabilites. Recently when attendees at one of his rallies pummeled a Black Lives Matter demonstrator, Trump questioned whether or not the black man deserved to be "roughed up". He then put out false statistics stating that black people were the cause of most violent crime.

Still, on two occasions black preachers have accepted his invitation to schmooze. The second clarion came earlier this week. As the billion real estate continues on his scorched earth campaign to decimate the Republican Party, he sought endorsements from within the black community. He looked for leaders; people who could grant his hatefulness legitimacy by saying that they represent the voices of a broader community. Despite a heartfelt letter from a broad swath of black preachers who appeared in Ebony Magazine, nearly begging the ministers not to do it, Trump's will was done. Pastor Jamal Bryant had some interesting comments about the summit. Please read the article below.
